LMC to honour late veteran coach Kelechi Emeteole on NPFL match day 26

The League Management Company has announced its plans to honour veteran Nigerian coach, Kelechi Emeteole who passed on in the early hours of Wednesday, June 21 in an Indian hospital after suffering from throat cancer.

In a statement put out by them yesterday, "Players and match officials of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) are to turn out with black arm bands to honour a former coach of prominent NPFL clubs, Kelechi Emeteole who passed on in the early hours of Wednesday"

In addition to that, a minute silence will also be observed across all NPFL venues on Saturday, June 24 and on Wednesday, June 28 for the Match Day 26 fixtures.
According to Dikko, “Emeteole deserves all the honour we can accord him at this time. We commiserate with his family and pray that God will grant them the fortitude to pass through this trying time in their family”.

Emeteole died before a corrective surgery for the disease that he had suffered for a while. He was the coach at El Kanemi Warriors and had repeat stints at Enugu Rangers and Heartland of Owerri. He also worked with multiple national teams of different age grades including the Super Eagles, the Flying Eagles, the Golden Eaglets and the Beach Soccer team (The Super Sand Eagles).

Emetole who was known during his playing days as "The Caterpillar" turned up for Heartland. It is understood that the Nigerian football community made donations to raise the N6m ($11,000) required for the surgery. Some of those to have made donations include, Enyimba coach Gbenga Ogunbote, General Manager of Shooting Stars Rasheed Balogun, Nigeria Professional Football League side MFM FC and
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo who donated N2m.
